Spring Exhibition
This spring exhibition of Modern British art includes paintings and sculpture by Eileen Agar, Francis Davison, William Gear, Paul Feiler, Adrian Heath, Ivon Hitchens, John Hoyland, George Kennethson, Margaret Mellis, John Minton, Henry Moore, Bridget Riley, Peter Sedgley, Keith Vaughan and Alfred Wallis, among others.
Two works on paper by Vaughan return to the Redfern, having been purchased in 1968, and remaining in the same private collection ever since: a classic male nude, of 1954, and a 1942 study of Prometheus. Two oils by Vaughan are also on show, one of which was part of the artist's retrospective at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1962.
Also included is Peter Sedgley's Light Pulse No 3, a large and important work from 1968 incorporating kinetic lights, which has been shown in a number of recent museum survey exhibitions, in Paris, Rotterdam and in London, as part of the Whitechapel Gallery’s critically acclaimed Electronic Superhighway.
A collection of newly discovered paintings from the 1950s, by John Armstrong, will also be on view.
