Roy Turner Durrant
Spirit is an appropriate word for Roy Turner Durrant, who said he was not painting places so much as the spirit of a particular place, the Inscape. A term he borrowed from Gerard Manley Hopkins, ‘Inscape’ is a difficult notion to pin down. It is very much concerned with individuality and uniqueness, and the expression of an inner core or essence of things, their distinctive design and intrinsic beauty.
