Patrick Procktor is the focus of new solo show in Bologna
Patrick Procktor is the focus of a new exhibition at the 16th-century Palazzo Bentivoglio, Bologna.
This marks something of a spiritual return for Procktor, who was a frequent visitor to Italy, having made various paintings and prints of Venice, in particular. He took part in solo and group shows around the country from the early 1970s onwards, starting with a solo exhibition in Bologna in 1972.
Included in this exhibition are several significant portraits of his muse, Gervase Griffiths, as well as his friends Ossie Clark, Derek Jarman, Mario Dubsky, and the printer Charles Newington, depicted outside a cafe in Zaterre. A selection of his early, more gestural, paintings, such as Head of John the Baptist brought to Herod, of 1964, can also be seen.
Patrick Procktor: A View from a Window runs from 12 December 2022 until 5 February 2023.
