John Carter: Sight Lines at Jerwood Gallery, Hastings
The Redfern Gallery is pleased to announce that the Jerwood Gallery, Hastings, is staging John Carter: Sight Lines, a major retrospective spanning work from the past five decades. Spread across galleries 1 and 2, this will be the first major institutional survey of Carter's work in the UK. His dynamic combination of painting and sculpture celebrate the interaction between object and architecture, and Sight Lines will place a particular emphasis on his large-scale pieces.
The exhibition will precede a solo exhibition at The Redfern Gallery in the summer, to coincide with the publication of a new book, to be published by the Royal Academy of Arts. Carter continues to show widely, with solo exhibitions staged at public museums in Austria and Germany in the past year alone.
Subjects of previous retrospectives at the Jerwood include Prunella Clough, Paul Feiler, William Scott, and Rose Wylie, among others.
