David Tindle in 'revelatory' show at Ferens
David Tindle is among a number of leading artists to be included in Reflection: British Art in the Age of Change, at Ferens Art Gallery in Hull. Drawn from the Ferens' own collection as well as the Ingram Collection, one of the largest private collections of modern British art, this exhibition juxtaposes old and new, comprising over 100 works dating from 1850 to 2013, all dealing with themes of identity and belonging. Rachel Cooke, of The Observer, has singled out Tindle's "marvellously spectral self-portrait of 1991" for praise. The exhibition has a particularly strong focus on portraiture, with examples by William Nicholson, Wyndham Lewis, Bridget Riley and Gillian Wearing, among others.
Reflection: British Art in the Age of Change runs from 17 August 2019 to 5 January 2020.
