1911 Born in Northwood, Middlesex
1929-31 Studied at the Slade School of Art
Studied at Academia Ranson and Atelier Colarossi, Paris
1933 Studied at the Academy Schools
1935-51 Exhibited with the London Group
1937 Moved to live and work in Paris
Fought with the Commandos
1942 Became a POW
1945 Studied at the Central School of Art
1950 Visited Cornwall for the first time
1954 Included in the book 'Nine Abstract Artists'
1954-56 Taught at the Central School of Art
1957 Took a studio in Penwith, Cornwall
1958 Retrospective at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London
1963 Won First Prize at the John Moores Exhibition
1964 Represented Britain at the Venice Biennale
1965 Moved permanently to Cornwall
1968 Awarded a CBE
1972 First works with poster paint
1975 Died after a long illness
